Melissa Maynard Power & Katie Yetman

Melissa Maynard Power
Associate Diploma CSC-CICB, AISTD (Modern Theatre)

Melissa began her dance training at the age of 5 and has been dancing ever since. Melissa holds an Associate with the Imperial Society of Teacher's of Dancing in Modern Theatre and an Associate Diploma with The Cecchetti Society of Canada in Ballet, and also teaches the disciplines Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap and Burlesque. Melissa completed all of her formal training locally, and also travelled over the summer months to various different training courses in New York, England, Quebec, Toronto and Halifax. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of local hip hop crew The Coast (formerly known as "Kick a Spin"). In 2012, Melissa opened up to the Theatre world, choreographing the musical "My Son Pinocchio" for Holy Heart. Since then she has choreographed for Footloose and Fiddler on the Roof. Keep an eye out this Fall for Melissa's choreography in "All Shook Up" at the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre.

Katie Yetman
AISTD (Modern Theatre)

Katie began her dance training at the age of 3 and has been dancing ever since. She holds Associate Status with the Imperial Society of Teacher's of Dancing in Modern Theatre and has completed her Advanced 1 Ballet (Cecchetti Method) and her Advanced 1 Tap (ISTD). She also teaches Hip Hop, Jazz Funk and Burlesque. She has completed her formal training locally, and has travelled to a variety of conventions and workshops in New York, Toronto, Halifax and England where she has trained with several leading choreographers and teachers. Locally she is a company member with Red Hot productions, performing and choreographing in their annual show. She has also performed in Rennies River productions of "Footloose", "Fiddler on the Roof" and their upcoming show "All Shook Up".

Kathryn Summers

Kathryn began dancing at the age of 9. Starting out mainly in Jazz and Hip Hop, but has since then grown into other styles of dance. Kathryn now focuses on Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, Ballet and Tap primarily and is always willing to learn something new. Kathryn has completed her Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 Modern exam and is currently working on her Advanced 1 Tap exam. She has also started working towards her Associate Exam in Modern with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Kathryn has travelled multiple times to New York, Toronto and Halifax to train in many styles of dance with several leading choreographers. Kathryn is also a founding member of local Hip Hop crew The Coast (formerly known as Kick a Spin). She has travelled to Halifax to compete 3 times, as well as competing at local competitions.

Kathryn has been a part of local productions, such as "Footloose", "Fiddler on the Roof" and this fall will be apart of "All Shook up". Kathryn holds a BA with a major in Communication Studies from MUN. She is very excited to be teaching at Coastal again this year!

Susan Lester

Susan began dancing at the age of 5 and hasn’t stopped since. Starting with ballet, Susan quickly branched into many different styles of dance such as tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, and pointe. She has successfully completed dance examinations in ballet, modern and tap as well. To date, Susan continues to further her training as she is working on her Advanced 1 Cecchetti Ballet examination, her Advanced 1 Tap as well as her Advanced 2 Modern exam. Susan has travelled to Toronto to train in many different styles of dance under several choreographers. She has attended The Pulse Dance Convention numerous times and has also participated in many local workshops that have been held over the years.

Susan began assisting in 2006 and began teaching in 2008. Since 2014 she has been thoroughly enjoying the enthusiasm that the Coastal students have for dance. She holds a BA from Memorial University and is so happy to be a part of the Coastal family!

Rebecca Cole

Rebecca’s dance training began at the age of 7 when she discovered an early passion for Hip Hop and has since trained in many other styles of dance. Rebecca now trains in Hip Hop, Jazz, Burlesque, Modern, Tap, and Ballet. She has completed her Intermediate Modern and Intermediate Tap with ISTD. Rebecca is currently working towards the completion of her Advanced 1 Modern and Tap exams.

Rebecca has travelled multiple times to New York, Toronto, and Halifax for conventions and workshops to train with leading choreographers in many different styles. She has also competed with local Hip Hop crew The Coast in Halifax and at local competitions.

Rebecca assisted at Coastal Dance Company for three years and is so excited to have joined Coastal’s teaching team!
